Neuromodulator FAQs

  • Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections that are used to treat wrinkles, frown lines and crow’s feet. A small amount of the neuromodulator is injected directly into the underlying muscle, causing it to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of the overlying skin. The effects typically last about three months.

  • Neuromodulator injections are an effective, minimally-invasive treatment option for patients who wish to address and even prevent some of the signs of aging, without expensive surgeries that require long recovery periods. With that said, patients can expect little or no downtime or recovery period after their treatment, other than some tenderness at the injection site. Some patients experience mild bruising afterwards. The bruising can appear right away, or within 1 or 2 days after the procedure, and will typically last from two days up to two weeks.

  • Typically, Neuromodulators last between 3-4 months, although some patients (especially first-timers) may have a longer lasting range of 4-6 months. It also depends on what part of the body has received treatment.

  • The number of units required to provide effective results will depend on your facial muscle strength, the deepness of your wrinkles, and the target area you wish to treat. With that being said, as a rule of thumb, the avervage units for different regions of the face are:

    Chin: 2 – 6 units (per side)

Corners of the mouth: 3 – 6 units (per side)

    Crow’s feet: 5 – 15 units (per side)

    Eyebrow: 2 – 5 units (per side)

    Forehead lines: 10 – 30 units

    Frown lines: 10 – 25 units

Laugh lines: 15 – 50 units (per side)

Nose lines: 5 – 10 units (per side)

    Neckbands: 25 – 50 units (per side)

  • $9 per unit.

  • Although it is easy to mistake fillers and neuromodulators as being similar, each injectable is used to target different facial concerns. However, both can be used to improve your aesthetics to appear more youthful. Let’s take a closer look at these distinctions in more detail.

Neuromodulators treat the underlying facial muscles to smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Functionally, they work by temporarily relaxing or weakening specific muscles and preventing the formation of dynamic wrinkles (often the result of common facial expressions) such as frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines.

While Neuromodulators can do wonders for lines that in constant motion, dermal fillers beautify the areas at rest. Dermal fillers are gel-like substance which are injected into the skin to target the loss of volume, soften and smooth facial wrinkles, and enhance facial contours.

Common uses for dermal fillers include:

    • Providing volume to the lips

    • Plumping under eye contours

    • Restoring volume to cheeks while enhancing cheekbones

    • Improving symmetry

    • Smoothing fine lines, creases, and folds.
